EHR is a big influence :D

This video talks about how EHR has influenced and help people in the medical field. This video talks about a patient and her name is Judy. She has many diagnoses and she does not know which medications should be taken first concerning that she has lots of diagnoses.  Judy felt frustrated and disturbed about it.

Markham Family Health Team is one of the hospitals have changed Electronic Health Records (EHR) from paper-based records for them also not to have a hard time in compiling the information of a patient and it would not be hassle for the team and also for the patient. With this changed and with the help of this technology, it was easy for them to manage the information of the patients. Because of this, Judy’s health care is managed by the doctors. And for that, Judy is able to know which medications should she take first and it was also monitored very well. Because of this technology called EHR, it has reminders, list of medications are available and viewing of laboratory results are also being viewed once it is finished. Eventually, Judy’s life was changed because of the EHR. She is now living a life with a positive attitude. It changed her perspective not only in her mental health but also her personal life.

This is an inspiring video because it really changed people’s life. It not only the medical field have benefitted this technology but also the patient. This is good news to everyone. It also made our lives easier and faster. I hope that all hospitals would also have this technology. I am also happy with Judy because it has given her positive outlook of her life. We should also be thankful because somehow we also progress in our medical fields to really help people who are in need. As a future nurse, I am really pursuing to finish my studies and would also proceed to medicine in God’s grace. This would really help  and influence not only me in my profession but most importantly to the people.

PCOS machine :3

In Central Luzon, the COMELEC together with the PNP have been working hand in hand to secure the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines that are expected to arrive. They have been talking about the security measures that would be implemented for the upcoming election on May 13, 2013. The PCOS machine is delivered from Lawyer Rafael Olano, Comelec regional director guaranteed that the PCOS machine will be monitored from the warehouse in Cabuyao, Laguna. He also hope for the machines will be safe will also provide security during the process. After that, PCOS machines will be distributed to their assigned precincts by the PNP with the help of the AFP.

I think that this is a good news to the people because the Philippines is now progressing because as a fact that PCOS machines are being used for the upcoming election. This machine is really helpful because it secures the people’s votes and would bring justice to us. As we know, the people’s votes are really important because our future depends on us. So people would have the right to choose their leaders that would also help and lead them in a right track. So the PCOS machine would serve as a guide to secure votes and to also make the work faster and would not need a lot of time to be able to know the results.

I hope that this would be the start of something different. Different in a way that would justice would prevail and will lead us to the right track. PCOS machine would be one of the factors that would help the Philippines to progress. But we also need to help each other and to also choose the right leaders to trust and to support them. We should also help even though in little ways. At least we did also our job as an individual.

Electronic Health Record from a Historical Perspective

Davis Program is a program that has a goal of improving and developing patient record. This curriculum has greatly influenced the medical field indeed. Davis Program is named from Dr Nicholas E. Davies, an Atlanta based Physician, president elect of the American College of Physicians, and a member of Institute of Medicine (IOM) committee on improving patient record.   [1]

EHR (Electronic Health Record) is an evolving concept defined as a systematic collection of electronic health information about individual patients or populations. (Gunter T.D., Terry N.P. (2005). [2]
EHRs may include a range of data, including demographics, medical history, medication and allergies immunization status, laboratory test results, radiology images, vital signs, personal stats like age and weight, and billing information. [3] EHR is really significant because it helped make the field more advanced and highly developed that would help the nurses make their jobs faster and more accurate. Because of this system, error in documenting the patient’s record was avoided; there was transparency in doing gathering and doing their reports, hassle was prevented also, vital signs are being checked, billing information can be computed and this record is competent of being shared across the different health care settings thus knowledge will be gathered as on to evaluate the possible outcomes of the patient. EHR provides confidentiality and security of the information that are being typed and processed by the nurse or the person who is in charged and to add this up it is a tool that supports clinical decision making, evaluation of the outcomes and etc.

On the other hand, there are also issues regarding of implementing the EHR. Even though it has many advantages of helping the medical field, it has also barriers regarding its uses. For example, some hospitals might not have the resources or does not know how to get started or to use it because they don’t have experience or get an enough training to really manage it well. This issue really concerns me because as a nursing student I also want to have an idea or knowledge about this. We need to help each other to provide efficient and competent care to the patients.

Can my community come up with an EHR? For me, yes. I think so if we just have sufficient resources and budget that would possibly have an EHR. I think that all we need is to help, cooperate or collaborate to be able to come up with an EHR. If we are all determined and responsible in everything we do, I know that we can do it. We just also have to stay positive and have faith in God.

How do technologies influenced the Nursing Profession?

At the present time, technologies are really in demand because of the advancement and   features that have been integrated to make our lives easier. The use of technologies have been part of our lives since it was been introduced to us. It has influenced us to also see different horizons or perspectives in life that would also help people not only to be in to fit in but to also grow as a person and to be better individuals.

The use of technologies really influenced or helped the nursing profession in different aspects like recording the patient’s information, managing the patient’s data, sending information through the use of email that would reduce hassle from running or going to other places just to give the data to the chief nurse or physician, it is also a means communicating or socializing with the patients regarding their daily/ annual check-ups, reminding the patients concerning their health status, it is also used for researching for the nurses to have a wider horizon or perspectives that would enhanced their knowledge that would support their intuition pertaining to patients.

As a student the use of technologies would greatly influenced my way and approach of learning. It would really help me in my research when I will be in my third year college like gathering of facts or data that would support my study. I would be able to search about the things that I don’t know to help me understand and know more about the topic. I would also use my initiative in searching videos of the procedures that I will be studying for me to know how to do it and to understand it very carefully. When I also make my presentation, I would be able to do it in a creative and artistic way for the people to also appreciate and would not be bored during presentation.

Expectations in terms of technology and practices in nursing would probably to obtain knowledge that would help my nursing practice efficiently, to be able to grasp some ideas that would help me understand the topic clearly, to be able to do my job accurately in a sense that the output would be creative as well, to be able to be aware and to appreciate the development and improvement of the nursing profession.
